Help Paying Utilities

Help from the Share One program from Columbus Light and Power

Several local businesses and organizations have joined together to help Mississippi families. Columbus Light and Water, the United Way of Lowndes County, and Helping Hands are assisting people who are struggling financially when it comes to paying their home utility bills on time.

The solution being offered is the The Share One program. This was created to offer utility bill assistance to your neighbors by adding one dollar to your own personal utility bill per month. Or you can add any amount you specify to the bill each and every month.

The donated funds will be placed into a special account that will be dispersed in vouchers to those in need of help.

The United Way Lowndes County Project Coordinator has stated that the way the Share One program works, applicants must go to Helping Hands to apply and see if they are qualified for help. To see if your eligible for the program, there is a case problem screening to make sure that you qualify for funds from the program. If you do, they will get in contact with Columbus Light and Water to find out if they can apply some of their funds from the Share One program to paying your utility bill.

The program is being aimed at people who just need some short term support. One time donations are also being accepted if you are more comfortable in donating funds that way.
