They distribute cash funds and grants to families and individuals who need help paying their electric bill. The primary assistance program is known as Tacoma PowerAid. The assistance program is targeted at customers in the region who are struggling, have lost their job, had an medical emergency, and who just need help. Tacoma Power offers funds in the amount of up to $150 for electric bill assistance to people who meet the program’s income requirements. Apply early though, as qualifying residential customers can receive utility bill help from Tacoma PowerAid through the end of the year or while funds are available. However, you can’t have been on another program from them, as help is provided to a customer only if they have not already received assistance from Tacoma Power’s Family Need program.
The utility company is doing its part to help local families, as they understand how hard it may be for some people to pay their electric bills, especially in this challenging economy and weak job market. The Tacoma PowerAid program is aimed at relieving some of the crisis’s and financial burdens that people are facing so that customers can keep their power on. An applicants total gross monthly household income must fall between the ranges specified for the program.

Customers living in University Place, Lakewood, Fircrest or other areas within Pierce County and the service area should call Pierce County Community Services at 1-866-223-1359 to ask about applying.
