Utility bill help from Florida Power and Light

Several different resources are available for Florida Power and Light Customers who need help paying their utility bills. They include the FPL Care to Share, Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly program (EHEAEP) and Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Learn more about each of these options below.

Care to Share

This program was created by Florida Power and Light and other local organizations. The number one goal is to provide emergency utility bill assistance funds to customers, families and individuals who are in a crisis situation and who may be unable to pay their electric bill due to a job loss, reduction in income, medical emergency, or some other reason. The Care to Share program is funded by donations from private individuals, businesses, and FPL themselves. It is managed by local community action agencies as well as non-profit and other government agencies.

The total amount of help that a qualified customer may receive is $500 for paying their utility bills. They can only receive help up to once per a 12 month period. In a limited number of situations a qualified customer may be able to receive more money, up to $750, which will be based upon special circumstances and with the approval of FPL

Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly program

This programs focuses on seniors. Financially eligible people, 60 years of age and older, who are experiencing an energy-related crisis may be able to get help for paying utility bills.

The program focuses on people with a crisis may be facing an impending cutoff of utility services,  broken heating or cooling system, lack of fuel or wood, or an unusually hot or cold heating season energy expense. A recipient of aid from this source may receive financial assistance or cash grants a maximum of twice per year, which will be once during the heating season and again during the summer cooling season. 1-800-963-5337

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

This is a federal government funded programs that will provide low income, elderly, and the disabled with grants to pay utility bills. Qualified families may receive several hundred dollars per year. Contact your local community action agency to learn more.
