If you are behind and paying your utility bill, or if you think you may struggle in the near future, Louisville Gas and Electric has some options and recommendations for its customers.
The utility has partnerships and programs with local non-profit organizations. Call any of the following to ask for help with your utility bills.
Louisville Metro Human Services (MHS) - 574-8000
This non-profit will help people assesses eligibility for federal government and Kentucky programs, as well as MHS emergency assistance. They will also refer eligible persons/families to the appropriate Neighborhood Place for help. In addition, MHS will also provides referrals to other emergency and social programs, charities, and non-profits.
Community Winterhelp, Inc. - (502) 561-6836
This organization provides emergency heating bill assistance from Jan. - Mar. to low-income households in crisis that are without heat, facing a disconnection or who are in immediate danger of being without heat.
Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program) - (502) 574-1157
This is a federal government program that will help low to moderate income households facing a home heating or energy bill crisis by offering seasonal financial assistance to prevent utility cut-off or disconnection of their service. Subsidy monies will be made available in Nov. - Dec. using an alphabetized application system. In addition, crisis assistance will be made available Jan. - Mar. (or until funds run out) for people facing disconnection of utilities; a co-payment for the utility bill may be required for those who apply for help. Be sure to call for hours of operation or more information on LIHEAP or other aid.

Customers that are currently, or may in the future faced with an LG&E utility bill that you think you won't be able to handle or pay on time, or if your utility service has already been shut off for nonpayment, please contact the utility as soon as possible at (502) 589-1444. Or dial 800-331-7370 if you live outside Louisville Kentucky. LG&E has Customer Care representatives that are always available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and they can usually work out some type of payment plan or general solution that will allow the customer to keep essential service connected and to get back on track. Ask the customer care rep about payment options such Budget Billing, a partial payment plan, Auto Pay, one service option for payment, government programs, medical letter extension and more.
