Help with utility bills from Energy Outreach Colorado

This non-profit organization partners with the federal and Colorado state government, as well as dozens of charities, non-profits and groups across the state to help low income, elderly, and other needy people pay their utility bills.

They offer qualified families several resources and services, including the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP), access to the Colorado Charitable Energy Network, and energy saving weatherization services as well as conservation programs.

Charitable Energy Network

This is a partnership of emergency assistance charities and agencies that work together across the state of Colorado. Energy Outreach works with these groups and they heavily rely on the partnership and services these groups offer. Together, these various agencies formed the Charitable Energy Network, which handles the distribution of grants and funds from the Energy Outreach program. The grants are used to help people pay utility and energy bills.

The participating agencies vary widely. Some of them government offices, are faith-based organizations, others  are focused on the elderly, some focus on providing help to military personnel, and some help the elderly. Catholic Charities is one of the lead agencies.

Colorado LEAP

The Energy Outreach organization is also the lead agency for the federal funded Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP). This provides low income and elderly applicants with funds to pay heating and energy bills, and well as money to prevent a disconnection.

Reduce Energy Bills

Energy Outreach Colorado and Xcel Energy have partnered together to administer the Weatherization Assistance program. The program is free to qualified applicants, and it has providing cost-effective energy efficient upgrades. The upgrades are free, and can help people save hundreds of dollars per year on their utility bills. Over 60,000 Colorado homes have been weatherized since 1976, and the pace of the program has been accelerating from recent increases in funding. Homeowners can lower utility bills by approximately 20%, with one in four homes saving almost 40% on their utility bills.

Home upgrades can include attic, wall and crawl space insulation, appliance inspections, caulking, appliance replacement, furnaces tuning and much more.
