Help with utilities from Black Hills Energy.

There are a few different utility programs offered by Black Hills Energy to their customers. Each resource is noted below, as well as information on who to call for help or to apply.

Weatherization and conservation - There are several different conservation and energy-efficiency programs offered to low income individuals and families, including energy audits, low-income weatherization, and rebates to help people buy and pay for energy enhancing improvements to their homes.

Medically Essential Service Program - It doesn’t provide direct cash, however the program does offer referrals to local Iowa charities as well as social service agencies that provide financial assistance. The social service agencies may then be able to offer a limited extension of time to pay their utility bills. In addition, the medical services program maybe even able to offer special notification prior to disconnection of service for nonpayment, so customers of Black Hills Energy can secure funds or make necessary arrangements to keep current with utility bills.

The Black Hills Cares Energy Assistance Program provides funds and emergency grants to help people pay their energy bills or emergency energy-related expenses. The program is partly funded by customer donations. While both customers and Black Hills fund the program, it is administered by local assistance and community action agencies in your area. Assistance agencies and the local charities will need to determine individual customer eligibility and distribute funds.

LIHEAP - This is the federal government funded low income energy program, and it is fully supported and funded by Black Hills. It may be able to assist low income households and families with meeting their immediate home energy needs. 515-281-4204
