Moratorium on energy bill disconnects in Texas

TXU Energy in Texas announced it has again declared a summer moratorium on utility service disconnects for those customers in its service area who are designated as low-income, disabled, ill or those customers who are at least 62 years of age this summer. In addition to the moratorium, TXU Energy has also announced that more flexible deferred utility bill payment plans are available to those customers who need aid. This is the third year in a row that the company has offered these protections to provide relief eligible customers.

To receive this help, customers must contact TXU Energy directly on or after July 1st to notify the company of their needs for assistance and to sign up for special, more flexible payment plans. These measures meant to provide assistance will be in effect from July 1 through September 30, 2009 of each year. In addition, TXU Energy will waive deposit requirements for residential customers who are at least 62 years of age and they will also waive deposits for all customers with a good record of timely payment of their bills

More details on the summer Moratorium on service Disconnects: Customers who are at least 62 years old or who are designated as low-income or at least 62 years of age can avoid disconnection of their utility service due to nonpayment by contacting TXU Energy at and asking for aid from the Summer Moratorium installment plan.

A key benefit of the 2009 Summer Moratorium plan is it will allow these customers to continue to receive electric service by paying as little as 25% of the current month's electric charges. The remaining balance will still need to be paid, but it can be paid in equal installments over the next five billing cycles, which is longer than the typical timeframe in which balances must be paid in three billing cycles.
